Conscious and Subconscious
Mind Balance

Every leadership book, advice, or discussion you will ever see or hear references goal-setting as a crucial element of leadership.  However, there is very little information available beyond how to set your goal.  A goal is nothing if never accomplished.  The most important thing to understand about setting and achieving your goals is how your mind filters negative and positive self-talk.

The mind works in a very clever way, filtering conscious and subconscious thoughts.  For example; imagine you have just bought a new car. Right now afterwards you begin to notice all the same make of cars on the road.  You have a heightened awareness of this particular make and model of car as a result of your unconscious connection with your own car. The mind automatically brings relevant material to your attention. This function of the brain can help you to achieve your goals, if you are relaying all the right messages to your subconscious.

As stress interferes with the filtering process between the conscious and unconscious mind, false expectations are created. That’s why you must be mentally balanced and reasonably stress-free when you begin the process of setting goals. If this is not the case, you are unlikely to achieve your goals.

Understanding yourself, listening to your body and sending the right messages to your subconscious are all vital to goal setting and achievement. If your mind is out of balance, the likelihood of achieving your goal becomes greatly reduced.

Your body and mind are both very powerful instruments.  If they work together effectively you can achieve anything you set out to do, as long you program in the right messages.

If you set a goal and then obsess over all of your excuses and the reasons why you’re not going to achieve your objective, you are sending the wrong messages to your mind. Your subconscious mind will keep telling your conscious mind and body that you can’t achieve your ambitions, and sure enough, you will not succeed!
