Executive and Management style
The first letter in LEADERS stands for Leverage. Leverage is your level of influence. Your leverage can be a factor in many things: who you are as a person, your position and title, your experience, your expertise, your personality, your communication style, and your environment.
Your dominant personality and style will also influence your leverage. There is no right style or wrong style; the trick is to identify what environment will suit your style and personality. You need to discover what environment you will thrive in and which you will die in. I mean, could you imagine former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair in the Navy? Well maybe you could! Think of the different types of working environments there are and discover which you are best suited for.
Executive Energy Levels
Look at your various roles over the years. Record the working environment you were in, the role you held, and the energy level that you felt most of the time in this role and environment.
In the example below, I’ve used Accountant in each role designation for the sake of simplicity, but if you’ve had different job titles in your career, then put them down. The objective of the exercise is to discover where you felt the greatest level of energy and motivation.
Working Environment | Role | Level of Energy |
Sales and Marketing | Accountant | Very High |
Manufacturing | Accountant | Very Low |
Administration | Accountant | Low |
Information Systems | Accountant | High |
